NordICT Advanced Technology Network

  • between ICT universities and enterprises
  • optimizing research activities and knowledge sharing

Technological development within ICT information and communication technologies is reaching a level, where the challenges faced by the industry are shifting towards development of services supported by the underlying infrastructure. A rapid and comprehensive development of competencies within ICT services will necessitate a focused effort among universities and a new approach towards research development, knowledge sharing and networking.

Companies might not independently be able to assure an appropriate development in a rational and social context. Nor are the DTU Technical University of Denmark or other universities capable of maintaining a central position as facilitator for ICT research and education through sporadic or ad hoc research projects. Consequently a number of international companies have asked the CICT research centre at DTU to establish a new framework for collaboration between industry and universities. The aim of this network with the working title NordICT is to establish a platform for collaboration between universities and the ICT industry in the Nordic and Baltic region. NordICT is to warrant that the identity, market position and IPR intellectual property rights of the involved companies may be preserved, while allowing the parties to benefit from synergies and volume evolving through committed cooperation with leading ICT research institutions. The framework for collaboration within NordICT aims to ensure that the market driven R&D activities among enterprises, as well as long term research projects within the universities become mutually beneficial. As part of the NordICT collaboration the companies have simultaneously wished to establish a close cooperation to provide ICT education at a high international level to assure:
  • research results are distributed synchronously to a wide range of interested parties
  • an academic environment providing a tangible forward looking education
  • constant enrolment of students to the technical and scientific universities

As part of the NordICT high technology network, the trade organizations and the associated ICT enterprises specifically wish to benefit from:

  • selective research for trying out new technologies and commercial solutions within specific areas of the value chain
  • mutual research for delivery of adaptive personalized services within and beyond 4G
  • common development of open international standards
  • collaborative models integrating SMEs in research projects and diffusion of information to ensure an advanced ICT value chain
