Workshop on mobile innovations and innovation systems in the Nordic and Baltic region

Following up on workshops held in Helsinki (August 2004) and Aalborg (May 2005) and with the aim of strengthening Nordic and Baltic networks of researchers in the area of mobile communications, a workshop will be held in Lyngby, Denmark, at the Technical University of Denmark on 1 September 2006. The topic of the conference is the development and future of mobile and wireless manufacturing and service provision industries in the Nordic and Baltic region. As is well-known, the differences between the Nordic countries in the field of mobile and wireless communications are considerable, with Finland and Sweden being the home countries of large manufacturing companies in the field, Nokia and Ericsson. Furthermore, the conditions in other countries in the Baltic region are also diversified. And, an important aim of the workshop is, therefore, to discuss the similarities and dissimilarities among the countries and the potentials for better using the resources of the countries in a cooperative manner. More specifically, relevant topics to be addressed during the workshop will include (but not limited to)

• national/regional and sectoral innovation systems in the individual countries
• comparisons of the developments of the mobile and wireless sectors in the different countries
• existing and future divisions of labour in the Nordic and Baltic region
• the prospect of strengthening the Nordic and Baltic region in the field of mobile and wireless communications
• Demand and supply conditions in the mobile and wireless field
• New business models in the industry
• The role of policy measures and regulatory frameworks
